The Tomb of Wang Jian is a significant historical site in Chengdu, housing the remains of Wang Jian, the founder of the Former Shu dynasty during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. The tomb is a large earthen mound that once contained an underground palace, now open to visitors. You descend a stone staircase into a dimly lit chamber with a massive stone coffin platform, surrounded by intricate carvings of musicians, dancers, and mythical creatures. The most famous artifact is a stone statue of Wang Jian himself, one of the few surviving imperial portraits from that era. The site also features a small museum displaying pottery, coins, and other relics. The grounds are peaceful, with ancient cypress trees and a quiet garden, offering a contrast to the bustling city outside.
