A bit of history
The crossing was inaugurated in 1973. It was featured in the 2016 Summer Olympics closing ceremony to promote the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Since the late 2010s, it has become a popular place for young people to gather at Halloween, leading to an ordinance banning public alcohol consumption in the area around Halloween and New Year's Eve. In 2024, the public drinking ban was extended year-round from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
