Un po' di storia
The bazaar's origins are unclear, but trade in the area grew after the Muslim conquest of Iran (632–654 CE). A portion predates the Safavid era, though much of the current structure was built later. By 1660, the area was still largely open. Under Reza Shah in the early 20th century, rapid development caused parts of the bazaar to disappear; older sections share a similar architectural style, while 20th-century additions often look different. The bazaar was a center of support for the 1979 Iranian Revolution, backed by bazaari traders who feared losing status due to industrialization and the oil boom. It continues to support conservative forces, though protests broke out there in December 2025.
