Hue Historic Citadel

The Hue Historic Citadel is a vast complex of palaces, temples, gates, and moats that served as the capital of the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945. Located on the north bank of the Perfume River in central Vietnam, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The citadel was heavily damaged during the Vietnam War, but ongoing restoration has revived many of its structures. Visitors can spend hours exploring the Imperial Enclosure, the Forbidden Purple City (the emperor's private residence), and the nine dynastic urns. The site offers a poignant mix of grandeur and ruin, with moss-covered walls and overgrown courtyards evoking its turbulent past. קצת היסטוריה

Construction began in 1804 under Emperor Gia Long, modeled on Beijing's Forbidden City. The citadel was a key battleground during the 1968 Tet Offensive, causing extensive damage. Restoration efforts continue today.
