The Village Museum is one of Europe's great open-air museums, a sprawling park on the shore of Lake Herăstrău in Bucharest where over 300 authentic peasant houses, churches, mills, and workshops have been relocated from villages across Romania and reassembled. Wandering its lanes is like travelling through the whole country's rural past: timber houses with steep thatched roofs, painted wooden churches, windmills, and farmsteads representing every region, many with their original furnishings inside.
It's a peaceful, fascinating, and very photogenic escape from the city, blending nature, architecture, and folk heritage. Allow a couple of hours to wander; craft demonstrations and a folk-art shop add to the experience, and the lakeside setting makes it a lovely outdoor day.
