Rizal Park (Luneta) is Manila's grand central park and one of the most historically significant public spaces in the Philippines, a sprawling green expanse by Manila Bay dedicated to national hero José Rizal, who was executed on this very ground in 1896. The Rizal Monument, guarded around the clock by sentries, marks his resting place and is the symbolic heart of the nation, the point from which distances in the country are measured. The park spreads out with gardens (including Chinese and Japanese gardens), fountains, monuments, a relief map of the Philippines, and open lawns where Manileños gather.

It's a place of national pilgrimage and everyday recreation, especially lively in the cool of the evening and on weekends. Combine it with the adjacent National Museum complex and a sunset walk toward Manila Bay's famous baywalk.
