The East Side Gallery is one of Berlin's most visited landmarks, stretching along the Spree River in Friedrichshain. This longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall was transformed into an international memorial for freedom in 1990, when artists from around the world painted murals on its eastern side. Today, it serves as both a historical monument and a vibrant outdoor art space. Visitors can walk the entire length, viewing iconic works like Dmitri Vrubel's 'Fraternal Kiss' and Birgit Kinder's 'Test the Best'. The gallery is constantly evolving, with some murals restored over time, yet it retains the raw, emotional power of the original Wall. The riverside path offers a peaceful contrast to the city's bustle, with benches and views of the Oberbaum Bridge. It's a place for reflection, photography, and understanding Berlin's divided past.

Don't miss

  • See the famous 'Fraternal Kiss' mural by Dmitri Vrubel
  • Walk the entire 1.3-km stretch along the Spree
  • Spot restored and original murals by international artists
  • Photograph the Oberbaum Bridge from the riverside
  • Visit the nearby East Side Gallery memorial and information panels
