The Berlin Wall Memorial (Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer) is a poignant and educational site that preserves a 1.4-kilometer stretch of the former border fortifications. Located on Bernauer Straße, it includes a preserved section of the wall, a watchtower, and an open-air exhibition that documents the history of the wall from its construction in 1961 to its fall in 1989. The memorial also features a Chapel of Reconciliation and a Documentation Center with a viewing platform. Visitors can walk along the former death strip, see original remnants of the wall, and learn about the many escape attempts and the lives affected. The site serves as a powerful reminder of the division of Berlin and the human cost of the Cold War.
