Birla Mandir is a serene Hindu temple in Hyderabad, built entirely of dazzling white Rajasthani marble atop a rocky hill called Naubath Pahad, overlooking the city and the Hussain Sagar lake. Dedicated primarily to Lord Venkateswara, it blends architectural styles from across India, and its hilltop position gives lovely panoramic views, especially at sunset and after dark, when the temple is beautifully illuminated and seems to glow above the city. It's a calm, welcoming place of worship, open to all.

Unusually for major temples, photography is restricted inside and electronics are checked in, which adds to the unhurried, contemplative atmosphere. It's a lovely stop combining spirituality, architecture, and a city viewpoint, particularly atmospheric in the evening.
