The Beijing Botanical Garden is a sprawling 400-acre oasis located in the Haidian District, at the foot of the Western Hills. Established in 1955, it is both a scientific research institution and a public park. The garden features over 6,000 species of plants, including rare and endangered Chinese species. Highlights include the Peony Garden (with hundreds of varieties), the Rose Garden, the Bamboo Garden, and the large Tropical and Desert Greenhouse. The garden also houses the famous Wofosi Temple (Sleeping Buddha Temple) and the Cherry Valley, a scenic area with a stream and cherry blossoms. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks, photography, and learning about Chinese horticulture. The garden is especially popular in spring when the cherry blossoms and peonies bloom.
