Stage of Flag

The Stage of Flag (Kỳ Đài) is a prominent landmark within the Hue Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage site in central Vietnam. It consists of a massive flagpole rising from a three-tiered platform, originally built to fly the royal banner of the Nguyễn Dynasty. The structure is 17 meters tall and stands in front of the Citadel's main entrance, facing the Perfume River. Visitors approach it through the Ngo Mon Gate, and the flagpole is often the first thing they see when entering the imperial enclosure. The site is a popular spot for photography, especially against the backdrop of the Citadel's ancient walls. The flagpole has been rebuilt several times due to storms and war; today it flies the Vietnamese national flag. The surrounding area is a large open square where locals gather for evening strolls and cultural events.

Ein Stück Geschichte

Built in 1807 under Emperor Gia Long, the flagpole was used for royal ceremonies and signaling. It was damaged by a typhoon in 1904 and again during the Vietnam War. The current structure dates from a 1950s reconstruction, and the flagpole was restored in the 1990s.
