USS Becuna

The USS Becuna is a Balao-class submarine that served in the Pacific during World War II and later in the Cold War. Now a museum ship moored at Penn's Landing along the Delaware River in Philadelphia, visitors can climb through the narrow passageways, peer into the cramped sleeping quarters, and see the torpedo room. The self-guided audio tour provides insights into the daily life of the 80-man crew. The submarine is part of the Independence Seaport Museum complex, so you can also explore the museum's exhibits on maritime history. Ein Stück Geschichte

Commissioned in 1944, USS Becuna completed five war patrols in the Pacific, earning four battle stars. After the war, it was modernized for Cold War service and decommissioned in 1969. It became a museum ship in 1996 and was designated a National Historic Landmark.
