Huaisheng Mosque

Huaisheng Mosque, also known as the Lighthouse Mosque, is a historic Islamic site in Guangzhou's Liwan District. It is believed to be one of the oldest mosques in China, dating back to the Tang Dynasty. The mosque's most distinctive feature is its 36-meter-tall minaret, called the Guangta (Light Tower), which served as a lighthouse for ships on the Pearl River. The architecture is a unique fusion of Chinese and Islamic styles, with a prayer hall featuring traditional Chinese roofs and Arabic calligraphy. The complex includes a courtyard with ancient banyan trees and a serene garden. Visitors can explore the mosque's peaceful atmosphere, observe worshippers, and learn about the long history of Muslim trade in Guangzhou. Non-Muslims are welcome outside prayer times, but modest dress is required.

Ein Stück Geschichte

Huaisheng Mosque was built in 627 AD during the Tang Dynasty, reportedly by Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, an uncle of the Prophet Muhammad. It has been rebuilt several times, with the current structure dating from the Qing Dynasty.
