Konya Ark, the old fortress of Khiva, was the seat of power for Khiva's khans from the 12th century onward. Within its massive mud-brick walls lie a palace, a harem, a summer mosque, and a mint. Visitors climb the watchtower for sweeping views of the old city, explore the throne room, and see the jail and arsenal. The ark's layered history, from early Islamic times to the 19th century, makes it a must-see for understanding Khiva's royal and military past.
