Dishan Kala is the larger outer fortification of Khiva, enclosing residential areas, markets, and several historic gates. Unlike the tourist-filled Itchan Kala, this district offers an authentic slice of local life, with mud-brick houses, small shops, and quiet streets. Key landmarks include the remaining gates like Khoja Gate and Bogcha Gate, which once controlled access to the city. Walking through Dishan Kala reveals a less restored but equally fascinating side of Khiva's history, where centuries-old traditions persist.
Don't miss
- The massive Khoja Gate, one of the best-preserved outer gates
- Traditional mud-brick houses and local neighborhood life
- The 19th-century Juma Mosque in the outer district
