Kaltaminor, meaning 'Short Minaret,' is an iconic unfinished minaret from the 19th century in Khiva. Its massive base, covered in brilliant turquoise tiles, was intended to be the tallest minaret in the Islamic world, but construction stopped after the khan's death, leaving it at just 29 meters. Visitors are drawn to its striking color and unique shape, which contrast with the surrounding mud-brick buildings. The minaret stands near the west gate of Itchan Kala, offering a perfect photo opportunity and a tangible glimpse into the grand ambitions of Khiva's rulers.

  • Contrast the unfinished top with the massive base, imagining what the completed structure would have looked like.
  • Photograph the minaret from the nearby west gate for a classic Khiva skyline shot.
