The Kalan Mosque, built in 1514 on the site of an earlier mosque, is a grand Friday mosque that dominates the Po-i-Kalyan complex. Its massive courtyard, surrounded by arched galleries, can accommodate thousands of worshippers. The mosque's prayer hall is topped by 288 domes, supported by 208 columns, creating a forest of pillars. Visitors can walk through the serene courtyard, admire the intricate tilework and carved wooden doors, and see the mihrab (prayer niche) decorated with majolica. The mosque is still used for prayers, adding a living dimension to its historic atmosphere.

Don't miss

  • Walk through the vast courtyard and count the rows of domes.
  • Admire the 12th-century bronze doors at the main entrance, originally from the earlier mosque.
  • Observe the intricate tilework and calligraphy on the mihrab and walls.
