Gonna be honest, this is one of the spots where I feel like the vibes are better than the food. It’s a very cute coffee shop, but the coffee is alright, and the bagel was pretty mediocre. It’s probably a wonderful spot to meet folks and frankly the only option in Mount Pleasant but I’m not sure that I would seek it out. Also definitely on the pricier side for what you’re getting
The honey goat cheesecake was really good, especially with the sourdough breadcrumbs. Get it slightly cheaper during happy hours from 5-7pm. Note that pastries are only available in the day, so go early if you want the guava turnover (which I didn’t get to try).
Went here for dinner with friends while visiting the area. Fun to see that the former Heller's (which was in decline when I last knew it) has turned into a thriving, chic restaurant. I enjoyed the decor--it's a sort of coffee/bakery space up-front with a restaurant in-back. The vibe was relaxed and cheery during the dinner hour. Our server was excellent--warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Farm-to-table type cuisine; the menu felt appropriate to the summer season and emphasized freshness. At dinner, there was a tasting menu option ($90/person), or you could order a la carte (which ended up being about the same per person, assuming each person ordered a couple of plates). We did a la carte. Typical "small plates" concept, although the meal was well-paced instead of the line about the kitchen just pushing out the food whenever it's ready. Overall, very good food. The spring pea toast was tasty, with a nice balance of textures. The grilled summer vegetables were standout good. A salad was great, with just the right dressing and some bread crumbs for crunch. The pasta dish was a little bland, though. Overall, a good experience--fairly expensive, though. Would definitely return for a fun dinner with friends.
If you don’t mind small plates, then Ellē features many tasty choices. The smoked whitefish and grilled broccoli were among the dishes tried and everyone seems satisfied. The menu is admittedly limited but you can find some good selections. Atmosphere reminded you of a neighborhood spot in which waiters are personal in making you feel comfortable. Although it was a positive experience, doubt it is a place that would be visited frequently due to the number of offerings.
