What better way of spending a Saturday afternoon than getting access to the number one breakfast burrito spot in DC. I’ve heard about La Tejana through different networks on social media. We got there around 11:30am and waited about 45 minutes until we placed our order. The order came out relatively quick, which was nice. It’s a cool little spot and a neighborhood gem. They are open from 7:30 AM to 1 PM and then they open again at 5 PM. They have a very friendly staff and the quality of their food is top tier. My friend and I sat upstairs, which had plenty of seating. I ended up getting four tacos and it was the perfect amount of food for me. My favorite was the 512. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they do pick up orders. The restaurant has been open for about two years now and every weekend the line is out the door as you can see in the images. Looking forward to getting a chance to go back it’s probably less busier early in the morning.
Tacos were phenomenal and I really like the dirty horchata. I’ve been wanting to go here for weeks but every time I’ve gone they have a line down the block - and I get why now. Finally went early enough that there was no line and my order came out really quickly! Update for the dinner & cocktails: Incredibly executed for both the food and drinks. They were out of the tres leches so I want to come back for it but I will be craving their churros for the foreseeable future.
If there is a more authentic Mexican restaurant in St. Louis, I've never found it. The food is simple but delicious and all of the authentic Mexican favorites are on the menu (which is printed in English on on side and Spanish on the other). Your meal comes with chips and three salsas, a milder red sauce, a spicy jalapeno green sauce, and a darker sauce that's quite fiery and flavorful. I generally use the red sauce as a base and mix in portions of the other two. Everything I've had there has been fantastic. I love their tinga (chicken) and their carne asada (steak) tacos which are overflowing with well seasoned meat. Their sopes are also a treat. Their burritos and tortas are huge and stuffed with meat. I also enjoy their eggs a la mexicana and their fajitas. For desert, the only thing I've tried is their delicious tres leche cake.
Best Mexican in St. Louis. Very friendly and accommodating for 14 of us. Even made the kids what they wanted. We will be back. Very clean. Food is amazing.
