Came on a Saturday night at 8pm and the wait was 30mins for 2ppl which wasn't too bad. While the wine selection was decent, the sake martini lacked a bit of oomph. Oysters (we got both the raw and grilled) and smoked scallops were interesting in a good way. The octopus was overcooked and too salty. The duck was excellent (we adored the gooseberries) and the side of fries went nicely with it. The chocolate dessert with smoked grapes was a perfect ending to the meal. Overall 7.5/10.
Solid place. I’m not sure if it’s worth waiting for three hours but if you can get in quickly it’s well worth it. The halibut, tomato, and octopus were incredibly good. Sadly we did not get the burger. The duck was also good.
What a find – this place is fantastic! While there are just a few tables/booths, there is ample counter seating at the open kitchen as soon as you enter and at the bar at the rear of the restaurant, plus the patio area. A low-key, unpretentious vibe with an eclectic musical selection but not super-loud to the point where you can’t carry on an intimate conversation like at other restaurants. Our server, Lauren, was great – friendly, knowledgeable and the right amount of attentive (no disappearing acts but no excessive, overbearing table touches either – a difficult balance for a server to strike). The food and drinks complemented and elevated each other quite well. It’s very innovative that the menu changes daily, and there were vegetarian/vegan options which I presume is a consideration for each night’s menu. On the night we went, we had olives and Roquefort cheese with honey bread to start, smoked bay scallops and strip steak as our entrées, and tart cherries with fresh cream as dessert. I had the Hemingway daiquiri (best cocktail I’ve had since my last trip to Jamaica) and my dining companion had the equally tasty but non-alcoholic Tangerine Sunset. The scallops were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the steak was the best I’ve tasted since Peter Luger in New York! Currently open Friday-Monday only. I can’t wait for this place to expand its days and hours, as well as its footprint, so that more people can enjoy the chefs’ collective culinary prowess. There is love in this food. Tip: try to arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to dinner service since there are no reservations; there will be a line but it’s so worth it.
