Boeufhaus is such an underrated spot, but that’s why I love it because I know I can usually get a reservation in a pinch. I’ve been coming here for a while and it’s usually a go to for me when guests are visiting Chicago. I think it’s one of the best steakhouses in the city! The staff are excellent, and the food is even better. They often have some good specials going on weeknights, and pro tip, if you want the burger you have to sit at the bar. For starters I always recommend the fried perch, it’s one of my favorite bites in Chicago. Perfectly crispy and light. Also the short rib beignets, shrimp cocktail, and steak tartare are all excellent. For mains, they make a fantastic duck breast, the steak frites are great as well but if you’re with a group either get a Ribeye or Porterhouse for the table, trust me. They dry age their meats so you get an incredible flavor and they’re perfectly cooked every time. Truly one of my favorite places to go, tonight was my first time trying the burger, and it did not disappoint!
Great experience! Staff was lovely and attentive. The food came out at a good pace and we enjoyed so many different things!
Four of us went to Boeufhaus to celebrate a birthday. At least three people greeted the birthday boy quite warmly. Off to a good start. Service was also quite good overall. However, our initial expectations were not met. Most steaks are really offered for sharing. My wife and I decided on a steak that was $106 and even though it tasted good, it was gristly and sinewy. Not an easy chew. Quite disappointing. Regardless, the real problem was with the final check. From my calculations we were overcharged by $9 and so I contacted the restaurant by phone and left a message. The Manager contacted me by email. However, after several email exchanges that were unsatisfying, the Manager finally called me. When I first contacted the Manager I thought I was taxed twice but that was incorrect. My error. But when I asked her as to why my service fee was $9 higher than I thought it should be, I was cut off. The Manager would not even discuss this perceived overcharge. When I did my own calculations on the bill, I totaled the food and drink, then multiplied that number by the 22% Service Fee, and then added in the 10.75% sales tax . This is the “normal” way charges are determined. As a result, my total was exactly ($9) cheaper than their total. Something was “off”. Not a real big deal, but the fact that she refused to discuss how they were $9 higher than my calculations, was galling. It was a simple request, phrased politely but receiving only a thank you for contacting them. Why would they blow me off? When all is said and done, there are many more superior steak places in Chicago, and with more reasonable and clear-cut service charges/fees.
Great food. Great staff. Wonderful suggestions from bar and waitstaff for drinks and food. Had a great night. Everyone was top notch. Would give more than 5 stars if possible
