Scarborough's funiculars are two historic inclined railways that have been transporting passengers between the town and its beaches since the late 19th century. The Central Tramway and the South Cliff Lift provide easy access to the seafront while offering panoramic views over the bay. Each funicular has its own character: the Central Tramway is the older of the two, built in 1881. Riding them is a nostalgic experience and a practical way to avoid the steep hills.

Don't miss

  • Ride the Central Tramway (1881) for vintage charm and harbour views
  • Take the South Cliff Lift for access to the Italian Gardens and Spa
  • Enjoy the sea breeze and photo opportunities from the open-sided cars
