Freddie Gilroy and the Belsen Stragglers is a life-sized bronze sculpture by artist Ray Lonsdale, installed on Scarborough's South Bay promenade in 2015. It depicts Freddie Gilroy, a local miner and soldier who helped liberate Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, sitting on a bench with his dog. The work commemorates his story and the resilience of survivors. Visitors can sit beside the figure, read the accompanying plaque, and reflect on the history while enjoying sea views.
