Normah's Cafe is hands down the best Malaysian restaurant I have ever been to. From the flavorful and authentic food to the warm and attentive service, everything is exceptional. There's a reason why there's always a long waiting list to get a reservation—it's just that good and truly in high demand. If you haven't been yet, it's absolutely worth the wait!
Normah's, tucked away in Queensway Market, offers a simple dining experience that resonates with those who appreciate mom-and-pop establishments serving elevated home-style Malaysian cuisine. Do note the restaurant is on the far left of the first perpendicular corridor you see when you enter the Queensway market. It took me quite a while to find this place the first time. First of all, the Nasi Goreng was a standout. The rice was perfectly cooked, each grain distinct, and the crispy elements with the fried rice struck a harmonious balance, resulting in a dish that was both satisfying and flavourful. I can keep downing this again and again. Best Malaysian Nasi Goreng Inahd in London indeed. Also, the Prawn Laksa was exceptional. The broth, rich and aromatic, had a depth of flavor that was both comforting and invigorating. In addition, we tried the Roti Canai with Beef Rendang. While the beef rendang was tender, it leaned towards a sweeter profile and lacked the expected heat, differing from versions I have enjoyed elsewhere. The roti also was too flaky causing it to crumble excessively, which resulted in a texture that deviated from the overall enjoyment of the dish. Finally, despite the small space, they made up for that with stellar service that is warm and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. In conclusion, Normah, the lady in charge, offers a delightful journey into Malaysian cuisine. While there were minor disappointments with the Roti Canai and Beef Rendang, the overall experience was enjoyable. I would recommend this restaurant to those seeking authentic Malaysian flavours in a homely setting and look forward to returning to this spot some other day.
Normah’s is all about the food. It is located in an obscure corner within the Queensway Matket. Don’t let that put you off; if you do you will be denying yourself a tasty evening. The menu is quite straightforward with particular dishes highly recommended. My advice is that you follow the advice of the restaurant even though I’m sure most of the dishes here will be top notch. We had the Beef Rendang, Seabass, and the Crispy Chicken. All three dishes were embraced and infused with the right flavors and perfectly so. This was Malaysian fare at its best. When you see Malaysian folk filling up a Malaysian restaurant it kinda gives it authenticity. Please make sure you book ahead by email. If you go there without a reservation you will be disappointed. There are a limited number of seats and bookings are made weeks ahead sometimes.
After an extensive search for the best Malaysian cuisine in England, I’ve finally found it at Normah’s. As someone who believes Malaysian food is the pinnacle of culinary excellence, this discovery was nothing short of a revelation. The Beef Rendang was a masterpiece—tender, richly spiced, and perfectly complemented by a crispy, flaky roti. The Curry Laksa was equally sensational, bursting with flavor and delivering that authentic taste I've been longing for. Overall, we were left speechless by the experience and will undoubtedly return. Normah’s has set a new standard for Malaysian food outside of Malaysia.
