Fantastic, different cuisine. Delicately spiced. Absolutely delicious. We started with olives and pickled vegetables, then we both had a prawn toast scotch egg, followed by scallops then hake. We finished with desserts which were fantastic. The banana cake and pavlova were exceptional.
It’s our second time visiting and we still thoroughly enjoyed our experience in this restaurant. The food was great, as expected, and still just as tasty as when we went over a year ago. Service was excellent for the whole evening as well, with great recommendations and adjustments for dietary requirements. This time I tried the kuku paka and I can see why this is the staple dish, it was so comforting and delicious. I also had the pistachio ice cream for dessert, it has to be the nicest pistachio ice cream I’ve ever had in the UK - almost on par with the ones I’ve had in Sicily! Definitely recommend you to visit at least once, it was an excellent experience.
Had team Christmas lunch at Jikoni. Sadly we all left very disappointed. The chef obviously took little pride in the food and how it was served. All dishes were pre-prepared, and nothing was very warm. The starters arrived as soon as we set down, and some were served straight from the fridge - my burrata was fridge cold. Even the prawns were quite tepid. Nothing had much flavour. The waiter collected plates as soon as someone would finish, rather than waiting for all to complete their starters before clearing the table. Even worse - while having a main meal, those who finished first had their plates taken straight away and were immediately brought desert menus (while a few others were still eating their mains (!!)). It felt like they just wanted us out asap. It's not home cooking. Would not recommend.
What a lovely dinner! The food is inventive and fun - don’t miss the crispy kale chaat and their take on sticky toffee pudding. The service is superb - the whole staff but especially Mark was exceptional. Two thumbs up!
