Allan Bank, a National Trust property in Grasmere, offers a unique glimpse into the life of poet William Wordsworth, who lived here from 1808 to 1811. Unlike many historic houses, the interior is unfurnished, allowing visitors to focus on the atmosphere and the ever-changing art exhibitions. The real draw, however, is the garden and the breathtaking views across Grasmere lake and the fells. Visitors can wander through the woodland, enjoy a picnic on the lawn, or simply sit and soak in the landscape that inspired Wordsworth's poetry.
Don't miss
- Take in panoramic views of Grasmere and the surrounding fells from the garden.
- Explore the unfurnished rooms featuring contemporary art exhibitions.
- Walk through the wooded grounds and spot red squirrels.
