The Bitches is a tidal race formed by a series of submerged rocks and reefs between Ramsey Island and the mainland near St Davids. At certain tides, the water surges through narrow channels, creating powerful standing waves and whirlpools that attract experienced sea kayakers seeking an adrenaline rush. The area is also a hotspot for wildlife, with seals, porpoises, and seabirds often seen. Visitors can watch from the cliffs or join a guided kayaking trip to experience the thrill up close. The spectacle is best at mid-tide when the race is most active.

Don't miss

  • Watch kayakers surf the standing waves and navigate the turbulent channels of the tidal race.
  • Spot grey seals, porpoises, and seabirds like guillemots and razorbills from the clifftops.
  • Join a guided sea kayaking tour for a safe and exhilarating ride through the race.
