Llyn Cwm Bychan is a remote lake cradled in a glacially carved valley, surrounded by steep slopes and craggy peaks. It's a starting point for several demanding walking routes, including the ascent of Rhinog Fawr. The lake itself is a deep, dark body of water, often windswept and moody. Visitors come for the sense of wilderness and the rewarding views over the Vale of Ffestiniog from higher trails.

Don't miss

  • Hike from the lake to the summit of Rhinog Fawr for panoramic views of Snowdonia.
  • Explore the ancient oak woodlands along the lake's eastern shore.
  • Photograph the lake's reflection of the surrounding mountains on a calm day.
