The Glasshouse, Gateshead (formerly Sage Gateshead) is a landmark music venue and education centre defined by its sweeping stainless-steel and glass roof. Designed by Norman Foster, the building sits prominently on the south bank of the Tyne and contains three performance spaces, the largest being Sage One with superb acoustics for orchestral concerts. Beyond classical, the programme spans folk, jazz, pop, and world music, plus community workshops and family events. Visitors can explore the public concourse for free, enjoy river views from the café, or take a guided tour to learn about the architecture and backstage areas.

Don't miss

  • Attend a concert in Sage One – the main hall's acoustics are renowned among musicians and audiences alike.
  • Take a behind-the-scenes tour to see the dressing rooms, green room, and technical areas.
  • Enjoy a drink at the concourse café while watching the boats and bridges through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
