The River Ness runs for about 7 miles from the outlet of Loch Ness through the center of Inverness before emptying into the Moray Firth. Its banks are lined with paved paths, making it a popular route for walkers, joggers, and cyclists. The river is wide and slow-moving here, with several islands and weirs that create gentle rapids. Along the way, you pass landmarks such as Inverness Castle, the cathedral, and the Ness Islands. The water is clear and often reflects the sky, offering photo opportunities at every turn.
Don't miss
- Walk the full stretch from the Ness Islands to the mouth of the Moray Firth for varied scenery
- Watch salmon leap at the weirs during late summer and autumn
- Photograph the reflections of Inverness Castle and St. Andrew's Cathedral in the calm water
