Inverness Castle, built in the 1830s on the site of an earlier fortification, now serves as the Sheriff Court and is not open to the public. However, the castle grounds and esplanade offer sweeping views of the River Ness, the city, and the surrounding hills. The statue of Flora MacDonald stands nearby, and the castle's striking red sandstone architecture makes it a prominent landmark.
