Wat Traimit, also called the Temple of the Golden Buddha, houses a magnificent 5.5-ton solid gold statue of the Buddha, measuring nearly 3 meters tall. The statue was discovered in 1955 when it was accidentally dropped while being moved, revealing the gold underneath a plaster coating that had hidden it for centuries to protect it from invaders. Visitors can see the statue in the main hall, admire its serene expression and intricate details, and explore a small museum on site that tells the story of its discovery. The temple is located near Yaowarat Road in Chinatown, making it a convenient stop.
