The Grand Palace in Bangkok served as the official residence of the Kings of Siam from 1782 onward. This vast complex encompasses a collection of stunning buildings, halls, and pavilions set amid manicured lawns and courtyards. Visitors can explore the former throne halls, such as the Chakri Maha Prasat Hall with its unique blend of Thai and European architecture, and the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall. The palace grounds also contain Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. A visit offers insight into Thai royal history and craftsmanship, though the current royal family no longer resides here.
