Good to rest your feet when you tired walking around Ari I hv the patongko with pandan dip. Not overly sweet its nice for a light dessert after breakfast
This place is now a take away counter with two small outdoor tables. The patongo was warm, but deep fried for too long. Disappointed.
Actually this is the same place as the other one called Mae Prapa crispy pancake. So the word "Kanom Bueng" is the Thai word and can be roughly translated to "crispy pancake" since there is no direct English word for this type of dessert. So this is the old style (or "boraan" in Thai) which you cannot find anywhere else. So you may like it or not since the taste will be different that others. Anyway, the fillings are more generous so the price is reasonable. Expect to wait though because sometime it can be quite busy with many local customers
The place went is totally one of the most famous ones in the area and one of the reason is because they have been open for generations! They divide the shop equally into 2 areas. On the left is the snack making station and on the right has a few seats for you to sit and enjoy the Thai snacks! I love how easy-going the atmosphere is and also how happy the people are there. 2 choices either the sweet or salty Kanom Bueng.. Salty Kanom Bueng (orange) : Salted shredded coconut, ground dry shrimps, spring onions and somehow tastes kinda spicy because they got a bit of black pepper in them. Sweet Kanom Bueng (yellow) : Sweeten shredded coconut, Foi Thong, dry persimmon I myself somehow love the sweet one much more.. If you’re ever in the area around Khaosan Road or Rattanakosin Island here in Bangkok, After enjoy the awesome Indian food ‘Karim Roti Mataba, I would totally recommend you check out this place! Come for a few pieces of this authentic Thai snack ‘Kanom Bueng‘. Oh! almost forget about the price.. It’s 12 THB a piece!
