Sanam Luang, or the Royal Field, is a large open square in the heart of Bangkok, directly in front of the Grand Palace. This historic space has been the site of royal cremations, coronation celebrations, and the annual Royal Ploughing Ceremony. Today, it serves as a public park where locals fly kites, jog, and relax. Visitors can stroll the manicured lawns, admire views of the palace and Wat Phra Kaew, and soak in the ceremonial atmosphere during special events.
Don't miss
- Watch kite-flying competitions, especially during the cool season from February to April.
- Photograph the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew from the field's open vantage points.
- Attend a royal ceremony or festival, such as the Royal Ploughing Ceremony in May.
