Malindi Mosque, situated in the historic Stone Town district, is one of the oldest mosques in Zanzibar, believed to date back to the 15th century. Its most remarkable feature is the unusual minaret, which is square in shape and differs from the typical round minarets found elsewhere in the region. The mosque's simple coral-stone walls and ancient wooden doors reflect the island's early Islamic architecture. While non-Muslims cannot enter the prayer hall, the exterior and minaret are visible from the street, offering a glimpse into Zanzibar's deep Islamic history and cultural fusion.
