The Old Dispensary, also known as the Ithna'asheri Dispensary, is one of Stone Town's most architecturally striking landmarks. Built in 1894 by a wealthy Indian merchant, the building features elaborate carved wooden balconies, stained-glass windows, and a distinctive blend of Indian, Islamic, and European styles. After years of neglect, it was beautifully restored and now serves as a cultural center with a small museum on the ground floor. Visitors can admire the facade from outside or step inside to see the elegant interior and rotating art exhibitions. The building's prime location on the waterfront makes it a highlight of any walking tour.
