The House of Wonders, or Beit al-Ajaib, is one of Stone Town's most iconic landmarks. Built in 1883 as a ceremonial palace for Sultan Barghash, it was the first building in East Africa to have electricity and an elevator. Today, it serves as a museum dedicated to Zanzibar's history and the Swahili coast. Exhibits include dhow models, traditional Swahili furniture, and displays on the island's trade and cultural exchanges. The building's name comes from its innovative features at the time of construction. Visitors can climb to the upper floors for panoramic views of Stone Town and the harbor.
