Rising to 3,698 meters, Balmhorn is one of the most prominent peaks in the Bernese Alps, dominating the skyline above Kandersteg. Its classic pyramid shape and glaciated slopes make it a coveted objective for mountaineers. The standard route from the Balmhornhütte involves a challenging glacier crossing and a final steep ridge climb, rewarding summiteers with panoramic views stretching from the Eiger to Mont Blanc. Even for non-climbers, the peak is a stunning backdrop visible from the valley floor, particularly striking at sunrise when the limestone face glows golden.
