Rising to 3,698 meters, Balmhorn is one of the most prominent peaks in the Bernese Alps, dominating the skyline above Kandersteg. Its classic pyramid shape and glaciated slopes make it a coveted objective for mountaineers. The standard route from the Balmhornhütte involves a challenging glacier crossing and a final steep ridge climb, rewarding summiteers with panoramic views stretching from the Eiger to Mont Blanc. Even for non-climbers, the peak is a stunning backdrop visible from the valley floor, particularly striking at sunrise when the limestone face glows golden. The surrounding area offers scenic hiking trails, such as the path to the Balmhornhütte, which provides a close-up view of the mountain's grandeur without technical climbing.
