Stretching over 10 kilometers along the Sarine River, Lake of Gruyère is a man-made reservoir that has become a recreational hub for the region. Its emerald-green waters are framed by rolling hills, forests, and the distant peaks of the Alps, creating a picturesque setting for a variety of outdoor activities. In summer, the lake is dotted with sailboats and paddleboards, while designated swimming areas offer refreshing dips. A well-maintained path encircles much of the lake, perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling. Several beaches, such as Plage de la Saussaz, provide picnic tables, playgrounds, and shallow water for children. The lake also hosts an annual dragon boat race and other events. Despite its popularity, the lake retains a peaceful ambiance, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when the water is calm and the light is golden.
