Baillival Castle, also known as Château de Corbières, stands on a grassy hill overlooking the charming village of Corbières in the Gruyères district. This 12th-century fortress was once the seat of the bailiff (baillival) of the region, serving as an administrative and defensive center. Today, visitors can explore its sturdy stone walls, towers, and courtyard, which have been carefully preserved. The castle's elevated position provides sweeping views of the surrounding Pre-Alps and the verdant valley below. Inside, a small museum displays artifacts and exhibits about local history, including the castle's role in medieval times. The site is less crowded than the nearby Gruyères Castle, offering a more tranquil experience. Visitors often enjoy picnicking on the castle grounds or hiking the trails that wind through the adjacent hills.
