Schiffenensee is a large reservoir lake created by damming the Sarine River, located just south of Fribourg. Its clear blue waters are surrounded by forested hills and offer a refreshing escape for outdoor enthusiasts. The lake is a hub for water sports: sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and swimming are popular in summer. Several beaches and grassy areas provide spots for sunbathing and picnicking. Hiking and cycling trails loop around the shoreline, offering stunning views of the lake and the distant Alps. In winter, the area is quieter, but the trails remain open for brisk walks.
