The Grandfey Viaduct is a striking 19th-century railway bridge that crosses the deep Sarine River gorge just south of Fribourg. Built between 1860 and 1862, this 340-meter-long stone and iron structure carries the Bern–Fribourg railway line high above the river. Visitors can walk along adjacent paths to admire the viaduct's elegant arches and the panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside. The best views are from the Belvédère viewpoint on the eastern bank, where you can see the viaduct in its full context against the backdrop of the Alps. The site is particularly photogenic in late afternoon light, when the stonework glows warmly. While you cannot walk on the railway itself, the nearby hiking trails offer excellent photo opportunities and a chance to appreciate the engineering achievement.
