Claro Abbey, also known as Abbazia di Claro, is a former Benedictine monastery located in the village of Claro, just a few kilometers from Bellinzona. Founded in the 12th century, the abbey complex includes a Romanesque church, a serene cloister, and several ancillary buildings. After centuries of monastic life, the abbey was dissolved in the 19th century and later repurposed as a cultural center. Today, visitors can explore the church, which retains its original architectural features such as stone arches and frescoes, and wander through the cloister's peaceful garden. The site regularly hosts art exhibitions, concerts, and other events, blending historical ambiance with contemporary culture. The abbey's location, nestled among vineyards and hills, adds to its tranquil charm. It's a must-visit for those interested in religious history, architecture, or simply seeking a quiet cultural experience in the Ticino region.
