Rankoth Vehera is a colossal stupa (dagoba) built in the 12th century, standing 55 meters tall with a circumference of 168 meters. It is the largest stupa in Polonnaruwa and remarkably well-preserved, showcasing classic Sinhalese brickwork and a distinctive 'hemispherical' shape. The stupa sits in a peaceful, grassy compound dotted with smaller shrines and stone pillars. Visitors can circumambulate the base, observe intricate stone carvings, and appreciate the engineering prowess of ancient Sri Lankan builders.
