Parakrama Samudra, meaning 'Sea of Parakrama', is a massive man-made reservoir constructed in the 12th century during the reign of King Parakramabahu I. Spanning over 2,500 hectares, it consists of five interconnected tanks and is still in use today for irrigation. Visitors can stroll along the embankment, enjoy boat rides on the calm waters, and spot a variety of resident and migratory birds. The lake offers a peaceful escape from the archaeological sites, with sunset views particularly stunning.
