Hatadage is a ruined shrine built by King Nissanka Malla in the 12th century to house the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. The name 'Hatadage' means 'sixty relics' or 'hall of sixty', possibly referring to the number of relic chambers. The structure is notable for its massive stone pillars, intricate carvings, and a beautifully preserved stone inscription that details the king's achievements. Visitors can explore the roofless hall, admire the ornate guard stones at the entrance, and read the ancient text etched into the stone.
