Groote Kerk, also known as the Dutch Reformed Church, is a historic place of worship built in 1755 during Dutch colonial rule. Its most distinctive feature is the wooden barrel-vaulted ceiling, which is unusual for churches in Sri Lanka. Inside, visitors can see the original pulpit, pews, and a collection of Dutch-era gravestones set into the floor. The church remains an active congregation and offers a quiet retreat from the bustling fort streets, with its whitewashed exterior and simple interior reflecting Protestant austerity.
