Orio is a picturesque fishing village just west of Zarautz, known for its working port and excellent seafood. Stroll along the harbor to see colorful fishing boats unloading the day's catch, then sample fresh tuna, anchovies, or squid at one of the many family-run restaurants. The village retains a traditional Basque character, with narrow streets, a historic church, and a lively waterfront. Orio is also a popular spot for surfing and paddleboarding, with several surf schools along the beach. It's a perfect place to experience local maritime culture.

Don't miss

  • Watch the fishing boats come in at the port in the late afternoon
  • Eat fresh grilled fish at a harborfront restaurant
  • Surf or paddleboard at Orio's beach, a short walk from the center
