The Verraco of the bridge is an ancient granite sculpture of a bull, located near the Roman bridge in Salamanca. Dating from the Vetton culture (pre-Roman Iron Age), these 'verracos' (meaning 'boars' or 'bulls') are characteristic of the western Iberian Peninsula. This particular verraco is one of the best-preserved examples and stands as a silent witness to the region's pre-Roman past. The sculpture is easily accessible from the bridge, offering a glimpse into the beliefs and artistry of the Vettones, who likely used these figures as territorial markers or for ritual purposes. Its rugged, minimalist form contrasts with the refined architecture of the city, making it a unique historical stop.
